Battery Rights Management – DTNS 3591

IFixit reports that if anyone but Apple replaces a battery in the iPhone XR, XS, or XS Max, a “service” message displays saying the phone is “unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery. At Black Hat, Researchers from security firm Checkpoint demonstrated an exploit of WhatsApp that would let an attacker alter text in a quoted message to change what a person appeared to write. Early results from a study by Apple, Eli Lilly and Evidation Health found that data from an iPhone, an Apple Watch, and a Beddit sleep monitor, differentiated patients with mild Alzheimer’s disease dementia from those without symptoms.

Recycled People Are Pretty Too – DTNS 3589

Google pledges that 100 percent of all shipments going to or from customers will be carbon neutral by 2020 and 100% of “Made by Google” products will include recycled materials and will maximize recycled content whenever possible starting 2022. Is this a PR gimmick or the start of larger trend in tech companies approach to environmental sustainability?

Netflix Getting Physical? – DTNS 3585

Apple reported revenue of $53.8 billion, up 1 percent year over year despite revenue declines in Europe and China, a team led by neurosurgeon Edward Chang at UCSF, has developed a brain-computer interface that could decode words and phrases in real time and Samsung announces the 10.5-inch Super AMOLED Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 tablet with a Snapdragon 855 processor, 15 hours battery life, and an S Pen that charges wirelessly.
